I’m trying to get into disc golf.?

I’m trying to get into disc golf and need some good discs. Although I’m only a beginner I have alot of Frisbee experience. Most beginner disc sets i found we’re expensive $30-50. I’ve also have had bad experiences with beginner equipment in other sports. I managed to find a site with discs that were fairly inexpensive

and was wondering if anyone could help me pick out a driver midrange and putter

You might be better off with two long drivers, one understable, and one stable.

For a putter, the Innova Aviar is fine. I used to use a soft Rhino and it was dependable.

I have an old Discraft Shark that I use for midrange backhands (I drive forehand), it’s now Innova Shark, I guess Innova bought it up. It’s a sure bet for midrange.

These are good drivers that are easy to turn over:

Innova Leopard
Discraft Cyclone
Innova Cheetah
Innova Valkyrie, if you can find one.

Two of the above would be fine for you but you might also want a stable driver to deal with wind or straight shots. For that, I’d suggest

Innova Eagle, or
Discraft XL

Most of the discs on that site are past models with old plastic, but they’ll still work fine. Get bright colors. You could get a 4-disc set for $28 I guess. Either 2 drivers from the 1st list, or one from the 1st and one from the second; a shark, if you really need a midrange; and a soft putter. To save money, just get two drivers and a midrange/putter like the hard Rhino. I’ve never really seen the point of midrange discs.

Let me explain a bit about stable and understable. When you throw a disc, it’s a gyroscope, just like a top. The axis that it spins around will slowly rotate around in the same direction the disc spins, this is called “torque-free precession.” If you throw a disc with a slight tilt, the tilt will turn around in a circle too. This is “turnover.” An understable disc turns over faster; an overstable disc turns over slower.

To throw a long, hyzer-flip, you need a disc that you can turn over; it takes excellent technique and power to make an overstable disc turn over. Some discs won’t turn over no matter what. The Innova Firebird CE for example fades too early to turn over.
